Built to be
read by everyone.
How IndiaNiva approaches website accessibility, what we have done, and what we are still working on.
Our commitment
IndiaNiva is committed to making indianiva.com accessible to as many people as possible, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or assistive technologies.
We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as published by the W3C. This is the standard recommended for European Union public bodies under the European Accessibility Act, and is widely accepted as the baseline for inclusive web design.
What we have done so far
The current IndiaNiva website includes:
— High contrast colour palette (deep maroon, charcoal, antique gold on ivory) tested for WCAG AA compliance on body text
— Semantic HTML structure with proper headings (H1, H2, H3) and landmark regions
— All buttons and links operable via keyboard (Tab and Enter)
— Image alt text on functional images
— Readable line spacing (1.7 line height on body text)
— Sufficient text size (17px base, scalable via browser zoom)
— No automatically playing videos or audio
— Focus indicators on form fields and buttons
— Mobile-responsive layout that adapts to screen sizes and zoom levels
What we are still working on
We acknowledge that the site is not yet perfect. The following areas need improvement and will be addressed over the coming months:
— Detailed alt text for all decorative and informational images as we add product photos
— Captions and transcripts for video content (saree-draping tutorials, brand journey videos)
— Full screen-reader testing on the homepage, Saree Guide, and Waitlist signup flow
— Accessibility audit of the WPForms signup process
— High-contrast mode toggle for users who prefer maximum contrast
— Larger touch targets on mobile for icons and small links
Known limitations
— The cookie consent banner (Complianz) follows its own accessibility standards, which we cannot fully customise
— Third-party embeds (Instagram feeds, YouTube videos) follow the accessibility standards of those platforms — they are not always WCAG AA compliant
— Decorative dividers, ornamental flourishes, and the brand wordmark logo may not be fully described to screen readers, as they are visual brand elements rather than informational content
Browser and assistive technology support
The site is tested with:
— Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
— iOS Safari and Chrome on Android
— VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
— Basic keyboard-only navigation
More comprehensive testing with NVDA, JAWS, and TalkBack is planned before the July 2027 launch.
If you find a problem
If you experience an accessibility barrier on indianiva.com — anything from a button that doesn’t work with your screen reader to text that is too small to read — please tell us.
Email info@indianiva.com with the subject “Accessibility” and describe:
— Which page you were on (URL if possible)
— What you were trying to do
— What went wrong
— Which assistive technology, browser, and device you were using
We aim to respond within 5 working days and to fix substantive issues within 30 days.
Legal compliance note
As a small information-first brand based in Germany, IndiaNiva is not currently subject to the strict accessibility obligations of public-sector bodies under the European Accessibility Act. However, we choose to publish this statement because:
— It is the right thing to do for our customers and readers
— Premium brands should aim higher than the legal minimum
— Once we launch our online shop in 2027, we plan to meet EAA obligations for private-sector e-commerce that come into force in June 2025
